SVRI Forum 2017: Conference Brief

SVRI Forum 2017: Partnerships for Policy Action brought together more than 535 researchers, gender activists, funders, policy makers and service providers from all global regions in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 18-21 September 2017. Forum 2017 was the Sexual Violence Research Initiative’s (SVRI) fifth global conference. The event provided an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of research to improving policy and practice on gender based violence and violence in childhood prevention and response efforts.

SVRI Forum 2017 was our biggest Forum yet, with over 280 presentations, 6 guest speakers, 2 networking events, 14 side events, 12 exhibition stands, 9 pre-conference capacity building workshops, young researchers programme and graffiti and storytelling workshop. During the Forum, delegates presented new methods, shared innovative programmes / interventions and launched new initiatives including but not limited to the launch of:  The Coalition of Feminists for Social Change (COFEM) , Being Heard project , Joint Learning Initiative for Faith and Local Communities Gender Based Violence Hub (relaunch) , Prevention Collaborative and the Community for Understanding Scale UP (CUSP).

The SVRI is pleased to share this short brief on SVRI Forum 2017 which provides more detail on the event and key lessons learned from the rich discussions and quality presentations from the congress.
